My single biggest influence would have to be Chuck Close. His work is amazing and beautifully done to say the least. His skill and the scope of his art is awe-inspiring, and he uses the subject matter that I find to be the most interesting: the human. I have always also found early or 'classical' ascetics from Greek and Roman culture to be fascinating. They're pursuant of perfection and grandeur even to a fault. But, they know what they want and they go for it.
For the semester obviously to learn and grow as an artist is a goal, but really to just get out and network/share/discuss/collaborate with other artists would be awesome.
Critiquing has always been a so/so experience for myself. Sometimes it seems that you could talk for hours and never hear a useful thing. Others one word is all you need. I tend to be particularly harsh on myself when assessing my work. My go to feeling is that its never really good enough. So to see and be a part of a quality critique and learning how to stimulate those is what I'm looking for in this class.
