Some photos that I take I like instantly, but eventually grow discontent with. Others I hate, but eventually come to appreciate. I think the later is the case for this latest batch (just below this).
Unfortunately the old leather couch was reacquired by my ex, and it's replacement just isn't quite the same so the setting has changed a bit for this group of photos. But I have basically went after the same thing: to try and get the personality of the subject to come through the photograph. As some have occasionally said, while they are interesting to look at they don't particularly evoke the persona or character of the subject. To counteract that I tried a different method of interaction with the person being photographed.
After taking them and sitting down to evaluate them a few days later, I don't think they are groundbreaking or amazing in any sense but I always like to think that I learn from my mistakes (both technical and artistic).
So while photography isn't my calling or my forte exactly and these are "ok" pictures I think that they will help in the future when I do more, as I try to look on the brighter side of things.
Also personally in particular I like the photo of Jessica where she has her head cocked to the side, is looking away/down form the camera, and her hand is brushing her hair. This to me is interesting because it shows a side of her that is real, in a sense. It wasn't bubbly cheerleader smiling for the camera, it was introspective and almost hesitant. I think that may the photo closest to what I was going for. She almost seems to be second guessing herself and that probably the most human thing I caught the whole time, it wasn't a "facebook" shot. If that makes any sense.
